Fabric dressings may come with an adhesive border to secure the dressing in place without the need for additional tape. Alternatively, some fabric dressings are non-adherent and require a secondary adhesive tape or bandage to secure them. Post-operative dressings are typically sterile to minimize the risk of introducing infection to the surgical site. They are individually packaged to maintain sterility until they are applied to the patient’s wound.
